Peden Farm

The Children's Farm Festival is located at Peden Farm on North Maple Grove Road in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Festival is held each year and allows area school children and preschoolers to see, touch, taste, smell and experience life on a family farm and much more.

All kinds of farm animals are there to be petted. There is homemade butter, maple syrup and apple cider, to sample and of course Farm Bureau Inc. popcorn.

For many it is their first time to be able to enter a barn or see the blacksmith.

The kids are also able to meet firemen, police officers, Sparky the firehouse dog, and learn about electrical safety.
And much, much, more.

The Monroe County Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. members, FFA Members, Lions Club members, Monroe County Junior Leaders, Old National Bank employees, Maple Grove neighbors and friends make up the majority of volunteers.

Richard and Rachel Peden moved to what is now known as the Peden Farm in January, 1941. Son, Joe, was two and daughter, Carol, arrived a few years later.

In the 1953 the Monroe County Extension Agent asked the Pedens if they would let some students visit the farm.  This became an annual tradition.  In 1975, Rachel Peden passed away and Dick then continued hosting school kids on the farm tours.

In 1994, when Richard “Dick” Peden died Joe and his wife, Joyce, hosted the farm days.  Since the scheduled event occurred just after Richard’s funeral many volunteers pitched in to help get ready and have the Peden Farm Festival.
